An indie dev used photos of his sleeping wife to create a genuinely upsetting horror boss — and it works

There's a line between inspired game design and something that makes you check your own home's dark corners. One indie dev just crossed it with something deeply personal — and genuinely unsettling.

David Szymanski, known for *Iron Lung* and *Dusk*, revealed he created a new boss monster by taking photos of his wife sleeping, then stitching them into a 3D model. The result isn't a jump-scare cheap shot — it's a slow, Silent Hill-style horror that moves with the wrong-ness of a sleep-paralysis hallucination. He explained the process on Twitter: "I took a bunch of photos of my wife sleeping and used photogrammetry to make a 3D model… I stitched it all together into a horrifying monster."

The monster shuffles toward the player with movements that feel human-but-not, exactly because they're traced from real footage of a sleeping person. Szymanski didn't just build a scary thing — he found a shortcut to the uncanny valley by using the real, vulnerable motion of someone unconscious. It's clever, it's creepy, and it's the kind of low-budget high-concept horror that indie devs do better than anyone with a AAA budget.

No release date yet for whatever game this thing belongs to, but it already owns the month's most memorable monster design. And probably a few nightmares.
