Ayaneo just built the GBA remake we've been asking for, and it looks stunning

Look, we've seen a thousand "modern retro" handhelds by now. Most of them are trying too hard — either they're tiny slabs with no shoulder buttons or they're shaped like a brick from 1989 because someone thought nostalgia meant you want a worse ergonomic experience. Ayaneo just walked in and did the obvious thing nobody else had the guts to do: they made a proper Game Boy Advance remake.

The Konkr Pocket Advance is exactly what it sounds like — a tribute to the 2001 GBA, but with a larger screen and modern internals. No gimmicks, no weird landscape flip design, no trying to be twelve different consoles at once. It's a wide, comfortable handheld that actually respects the original's horizontal layout, which means you get proper grip and shoulder buttons that don't feel like an afterthought.

This matters because the GBA form factor is genuinely one of the best handheld designs ever made — it just needed a bigger, brighter screen and hardware that doesn't require a magnifying glass. Ayaneo seems to have understood that. If they nail the price and battery life, this could be the one retro handheld that actually replaces my original hardware.
