If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if a survival horror game was built with the physics of a ragdoll simulator and the art direction of a fever dream, let me introduce you to *Ecstatica*. Yes, that’s the actual name, and yes, it is about as calm as the title suggests. Two utterly original '90s PC horror titles — the original *Ecstatica* and its sequel — have been unearthed by publisher SNEG, and they're coming to Steam soon. And I need you to understand: these are not just old games. These are *weird* old games.

The first *Ecstatica* dropped in 1994, and the thing that set it apart — and still makes it look like nothing else — was its visual style. Instead of pixels or polygons, characters were built from ellipsoids. I’m serious. The protagonist, and every monster you meet, looks like they were assembled from a box of decorative wooden eggs. But the scares were real: the first game opens with a werewolf attack that sets the tone for a tense, isolated horror puzzle-box with no HUD and a very cruel sense of timing. The sequel, *Ecstatica 2* (1997), expanded the scope to a full town and leaned way harder into its Slavic folk-horror roots, complete with a terrifying priest and a very, very bad ritual.

SNEG is also re-releasing four other classics alongside these two, which means we’re getting six total reissues — but *Ecstatica* is the headliner. No release date yet on Steam, but they’ll be coming one at a time.
